2018 Queen of the Chesapeake – Mia Sokol
Bodkin Yacht Club
Hello everyone! My name is Mia Sokol and I am honored to hold the title of the 2018 Queen of the Chesapeake. Serving as Bodkin Yacht Club’s Princess the past two years was a truly rewarding experience and I am looking forward to this next chapter of my life as Queen.
I am currently a junior at Notre Dame Preparatory School, a Catholic high school for girls. I run on the cross country and track teams and serve as a student ambassador. Also, I am a member of the Women in Medicine club, which has allowed me internship opportunities in the field of medicine. Last summer I served as a junior volunteer in the surgery department at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. I am enrolled in both Honors and AP level coursework and have received Principal’s Honor Roll my entire school career. Recently I was inducted into the Tri-M Music Honor Society and am currently enrolled in an advanced piano class. In my spare time, I enjoy boating, running, playing piano, and working as a lifeguard at my local YMCA.
To align with my love of the water, the charity I am supporting is the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. My goal is to help raise awareness about things that can be done within our homes and boats to help preserve the Bay, so we can all create lasting memories for years to come.
I’m looking forward to an exciting year with you all!
